Our Story
Historical Background:
Formerly known as Filipinas Broadcasting Association, Incorporated (FBAI), it is a medium-sized broadcasting company that started with a single AM Radio station known as DYRF. This station was founded by the Redemptorist Fathers (CSsR) in 1968 in Cebu City upon the inspiration of the late Julio Cardinal Rosales. However, after eleven years of operation, the station was sold to the SVD-PHS Fathers (Society of the Divine Word-Philippine South, Inc.) in 1979. In 1981, the company entered into contract with a professional management agency to manage the station’s programming, drama production and marketing. In 1983, station DYRF-AM steeped-up its political advocacy against the Marcos regime by promoting the cause of exiled Ninoy Aquino, and reached its listenership heights when the latter was assassinated. The station dominated the primetime slots anchored by the late Inday Nita Daluz. Thereafter, various business partners took turn in operating DYRF. By 2002, the company took over the management of DYRF and DYDW-FM. In 1989, station DYDW-AM Radyo Diwa Tacloban was blessed and inaugurated, with the special attendance of the local Church hierarchy, SVD priests and brothers, and German Ambassador, Dr. Peter Scholz. It has consistently received awards and appreciations by various government and non-government organizations for its exemplary public service. In 1992, a tri-partite Memorandum of Agreement was signed by the company with two private management companies to manage the marketing, programming, and production of station DYDW-FM Cebu. It became known as the Citylite 89.1 the light of the city. Now, it is known as Power FM 89.1 Cebu under the direct management of the company. On March 25, 2005, the last added station DYAJ-FM Ormoc was officially opened which provided the needed broadcast services to the budding and economically prosperous city of Ormoc. Now, it is the dominant radio station of the city for its various community services in partnerships with the local Church, local government units and non-government agencies. The primary concern of the management is to pursue a competitive programming and sales strategy that would enable the company to earn a respectable return on investments, perhaps higher than its cost of investments and, thus continue the SVD Mission. |
